The Bike Shed Theatre need some BUD-ies

We are only a little theatre so we are looking for some volunteer BUD-ies to help us with the publicity campaign for our Spring Season brochure!

To those unfamiliar with the Bike Shed Theatre, we’re where the theatre makers of tomorrow start their journeys. We give them space to test ideas, to develop new work and to proudly show it to the world. Well, to Exeter. It’s a place to try something new, to take a chance on the unexpected and be pleasantly surprised by the outcomes.

We are asking our BUD-ies to help us to distribute our Spring brochures in and around Exeter. We...

Most people earning average wages in the South West would need to more than double their annual salary just to keep up with out of control house prices, new research by homelessness charity Shelter shows. In the study, released today, the charity looked at wage and house price inflation since 1997 in every area of the region. This was then used to calculate what average annual earnings would be if they had risen at the same rate as house prices. The charity argues that as the disparity between house prices and wages is keeping a generation of people out of the market. “When you’d need to...

Campaign urges the South West to talk more

The number of us taking the time to sit and chat with someone close is dwindling, according to new research from the mental health anti-stigma programme Time to Change, which shows that nearly two thirds of people (59%) in the South West admit they should talk to family and friends more often than they currently do.

The findings were released on the first ever national Time to Talk Day (6 February) which aimed to spark one million conversations about mental health.

Exploring how often we’re having conversations, the poll reveals only around a third (31%) of people ask their...

MP backs ivory crush ahead of London summit on illegal wildlife trade

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, joined the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) on Monday 10 February as the charity crushed hundreds of items of unwanted ivory to help protect elephants from the deadly ivory trade.

IFAW destroyed around 100kgs of ivory items ranging from whole elephant tusks to carvings and jewellery in spectacular fashion in London to raise awareness of the ivory trade and show support for elephant protection ahead of a major international summit on the issue.

Alarmingly, an elephant is killed every 15 minutes for its ivory. It is...

The smart new Holmdale apartments are the result of a partnership agreement between the Council, which retains the freehold of the town centre site, and DCH, who manages affordable housing schemes across the South West.

Built on the site of a former motor workshop, later used as a gym, the 12...
