Brits consider cyclists to be 13 per cent more intelligent, 13 per cent cooler and ten per cent more charitable than the average person, according to research commissioned by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) on the launch of their 39th London to Brighton Bike Ride which raises vital funds to fund research to fight heart disease.

Essential drainage repairs needed in Barrack Road

Barrack Road in Exeter will be closed to traffic between the Topsham Road and Wonford Road junctions for essential drainage repairs and associated works, for three weeks from Monday 27 January.

At the same time, resurfacing and other improvement work at the entrance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on Barrack Road, as well as daytime surface patching between Wonford Road and Haldon View Terrace, will also be carried out under traffic light management.

Mickey attends mine rescue exercise

Mickey, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service's live scent rescue dog, recently attended an exercise in Wales along with his handler Paul West.

The team were working alongside the London Fire & Rescue Services own Urban Search and Rescue team.

The exercise was a mine rescue and took place over two days in Dinas in the Rhondda, Wales, involving a simulation of a collapsed three storey building with an unknown number of casualties inside that were either trapped or missing.

Our clients may have been homeless, experienced mental health problems or addictions, or other difficult life experiences. A leading Devon businessman is to become the chairman of Radio Exe Ltd, the Exeter-based commercial radio station. Rex Rozario OBE will take over the chairmanship from Paul Nero, who will remain as chief executive of the company.

Police have rescued a woman in her 70s who was walking on Dartmoor and managed to get trapped in a bog.

At about 1.45pm on Saturday 11 January police received a call from a woman who said she was stuck on the moors.

Mobile phone reception was poor and it was not clear initially where she was or why she was stuck.
