Scrum-half Haydn Thomas and back-row forward Kai Horstmann are the latest to put pen to paper on new contracts that will keep both players at Sandy Park until at least the summer of 2015.

UPDATE: Young campaigners against the cuts to the Council’s Youth Service have been denied the chance to speak at today’s full council meeting to set the next year’s budget. Campaigners had asked for three minutes to address the council before a decision was made on the future of several major services including the youth service. However Council chairman, Bernard Hughes had said that standing orders prevented parties from speaking in the council. Chefs prove there's naan better!

The winners of the Exeter and Teinbridge Curry Chef of the Year 2014 have been announced.

Bijumon Varghese, of the Curry Leaf, in North Street, Exeter, was crowned Exeter Curry Chef of the Year, while Top Swar, of Gurkha Chef, Newton Abbot, took the honours for Teinbridge.

The two chefs will now face a 'cook-off' at the Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink South at the end of April to find the overall winner.

The concert will be given by Virtuosi, an international group of instrumentalists from Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School. It will also be the first ‘outing’ for our newly-acquired Bechstein concert grand piano.

Last week was very special for one of Angela Court’s residents.

Clifford Long had a double celebration, his 90th birthday and his anniversary for living at Angela Court for an impressive 25 years.

The double header was recognised by all our staff who planned some lovely activities to celebrate both remarkable events. Their chef made a beautiful cake for Clifford to share with all his friends and family, music was played and presents were exchanged – everyone, and especially Clifford had a wonderful afternoon.

Consultation on Kingskerswell Road improvements

A public consultation on proposals to improve Kingskerswell Road between Newton Abbot and Kingskerswell is underway.

Decoy Industrial Estate, which is currently home to 25 businesses, is planned to expand to create around 500 new jobs.

Devon County Council and Teignbridge District Council are proposing the £2.6 million upgrade of the road in order to accommodate the potential extra traffic and the authorities will be consulting on the proposals until Friday 28 February.

Cycle training for 7,500 Devon schoolchildren

More Devon schoolchildren than ever before will receive Bikeability cycle training in the coming financial year.

Devon County Council has successfully secured £300,000 of funding from the Department for Transport to train around 7,500 schoolchildren in the county.

Bikeability is a national initiative providing “cycling proficiency” for the 21st century which has been adopted by Devon County Council as the cycle training standard in the county.

The organisers of Dawlish Air Show have confirmed that the Red Arrows will be appearing at this year’s show.

The Red Arrows, who celebrate their 50th season this year, are the first display team to be announced in what is promising to be another spectacular event.

Last year around 100,000 people basked in the glorious Devon sunshine and enjoyed a varied and thrilling day of flying which featured a Eurofighter Typhoon, Vulcan and Pitts Special.
