Youth teams at Honiton RFC were given a special treat this week when they were given the chance to practice their skills with some of Exeter Chief’s finest players in a special, one-off training session. The event was organised by Exeter-based Financial Claims Management Company EMCAS, active sponsors of both clubs, who saw an opportunity to give the Honiton youth teams a unique experience, as part of helping to inspire the next generation of professional players.

Road repairs by utility companies have shown a massive improvement over the past two years, following the publication of recommendations by Devon County Council.
A number of measures were put forward by the Council’s Place Scrutiny Committee Task Group in March 2012 to improve the quality of road repairs, which have to comply with a certain quality standard.
The Task Group’s report highlighted that utility companies responded positively to its original recommendations, including the training and improved supervision of the work force, which had led to a better standard of...
Probation Officers in Exeter will walk out on strike today against “dangerous” new changes introduced by the Ministry of Justice. The changes introduced by justice minister Chris Grayling will see around 70% of probation service work outsourced to private firms and volunteers in an effort to cut the costs of the service. The move has been criticised by the National Association of Probation Officers (NAPO) who argue that the changes are “dangerous” and will place the public at risk. Su McConnell, Devon & Cornwall Branch of NAPO said: “I am striking to send a clear message to Grayling:...

In this video local business expert James Orpin from Tozers Solicitors explains shareholders agreements.
James explains what shareholders agreements are and what you should consider when putting one in place “A key employee is issued shares or granted an option for shares to incentivise them and promote their loyalty. In this scenario, provisions should possibly be included which can force them to transfer their shares should they cease to be an employee. A common question is whether there is a standard form of shareholders agreement. The short answer is no, each one is drafted...
A gorilla is sending postcards back to Devon from the Antarctic. PEG – which stands for Polar Explorer Gorilla – is on board HMS Protector, the Royal Navy’s ice patrol vessel, on the adventure of a life-time. But why has a gorilla gone to the Antarctic?
PEG is probably the first gorilla ever to venture to the Antarctic - and it’s all to do with climate change. The adventure began when Simon Tonge, from the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, which runs Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, Living Coasts – Torquay’s coastal zoo – and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall, was invited to lunch on...
Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter said he was "perplexed" as to why his team were not awarded a penalty try in the final minute of their Aviva Premiership encounter at home to Gloucester.
With Gloucester prop Sila Puafisi already in the sin-bin for a late hit on Chiefs playmaker Gareth Steenson, the visitors were then reduced to 13 men when fellow Tongan Sione Kalamafoni was shown yellow by referee Matt Carley for cynically killing Exeter's driving maul just inches from the line.
Although the Chiefs made the numerical advantage pay in the subsequent play as Don Armand...
I speak to local Torquay boys; Jed Tuner, 16, Max Taylor, 17, and Ollie Holdup, 15, on their venture of becoming big in the bay. Fourth base is a new upcoming alternative three piece rock band with plenty of talent to express; they started off busking around the town, then playing at a few events and now they have a line-up of their own gigs. The band recently had their radio debut on ‘Rivera FM’ a local online radio station for Torbay where they played a few of their original songs from their brand new EP.
Often the scourge of Gloucester in previous top flight battles, the deadly right boot of Exeter Chiefs marksman Gareth Steenson was this time unable to land his side a telling blow against their Aviva Premiership rivals.
Handed the shot with the clock up, the Irishman’s last-gasp conversion drifted wide of the target and gave the visiting Cherry & Whites only their second-ever victory at Sandy Park.
In a pulsating conclusion to the contest, Gloucester saw both Sila Puafisi and Sione Kalamafoni dispatched to the sin-bin as they look...
