Riders excited at prospect of Devon Stage of The Tour

The Friends Life Tour of Britain will be bigger and better than ever when it returns to Devon on Thursday 11 September.

Pro rider Chris Opie, of Rapha Condor JLT, and former pro Colin Lewis today (Friday 1 August) got a preview of some of the route which will start in Exmouth and finish in Exeter.

The Devon Stage, hosted by Devon County Council and sponsored by South West Highways Ltd, will be Stage Five of the race and will cover 110miles (177km) of the county.

Two North Devon men are cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in September to raise funds for two charities.

Rob Weatherley and Jon Gay from Coxleigh Barton, near Barnstaple in Devon are hoping to complete the gruelling 874 mile trip in just eight days.

Devon broiler farmer Tamsin French has dresses s as a chicken called ‘Rosa’, and today embarked on a 39-day tour of the European Union. The 39Days4Rosa tour will take in 21 EU Member States and finish at the European Parliament in Brussels on September 8th.

Police appeal after 14-year-old is assaulted

Detectives from British Transport Police have released the CCTV image of a man officers would like to speak to after a 14-year-old girl was assaulted at Exmouth station.

The incident happened on Sunday 13 July, as the girl travelled between Exeter and Exmouth.

Detective Constable Dean Jeffery said: “During the journey the man engaged the girl in conversation and, when the train arrived at Exmouth, he walked with her towards the bus station and touched her inappropriately.

“The girl managed to run away and alert the authorities.”

An Exeter based investment management business has produced a novel idea to promote its brand by launching a specially brewed beer , the first stone brewed ale in Britain for 100 years.
