Sponsors step up for 2014 green awards

Environmental networking charity DEBI says it has just a few sponsorship opportunities remaining for its 2014 awards.

DEBI has already secured category sponsorship from South West Water and South Devon tyre recycler Bandvulc. The Environment Agency and green issue management specialist JP Associates are co-sponsoring this year’s Environmental Champion, won in 2013 by Gabriel Wondrausch of SunGift Energy.

DEBI’s well-regarded annual awards celebrate the best of Devon’s sustainable and green businesses, and this year a new category has been introduced to recognise initiatives...

Planning excellence accolade for Cranbrook submission

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) South West has judged a submission describing the work of East Devon District Council and the New Growth Point Team in creating the new community of Cranbrook as the best in one of the categories at its annual Planning Excellence Awards in Cheltenham.

The Council’s submission, ‘Cranbrook New Community’ was up against a whole range of very high quality entries and came out top in the RTPI SW category 'Other Planning Work'.

Scouts enjoy ranger adventures at Knightshayes

On Wednesday 30 July, family and scout groups had a summer adventure with the ranger team at Knightshayes, the National Trust property on the outskirts of Tiverton. These visitors became National Trust rangers for the day by helping to restore a historic parkland feature to its former glory.

Hundreds of postcards have been written to those affected by the outbreak of the First World War from people today, as a form of memorial and recognition.

East Devon is inheritance tax hotspot

Rising house prices have helped push up the number of households paying inheritance tax and are creating new IHT hotspots around the country, as identified by NFU Mutual, with East Devon the hotspot of the South West.

In the latest HMRC data, many constituencies saw a rise in the number of households paying IHT1and the report estimates total IHT income at £3.417bn for last tax year (up 8.6% from £3.147bn).
