Iconic animation models to be displayed

Ray Harryhausen is a legendary figure in the history of animation through the models that he created for films such as Jason and the Argonauts, One Million Years B.C, and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.

Bicton Arena is awarded international status

Bicton Arena has announced it has been awarded international status for its August 2015 horse trials.

The venue will run CIC and CIC2 classes. Both are regarded as a necessary stepping stones for riders wishing to compete at international level in the UK and Europe.

People are being urged to help cut the number of towing related incidents on the country’s major roads this summer by checking their caravan or trailer before setting out.

There were 516 towing related incidents recorded on Highways Agency roads in the South West between July and September in 2013, and 2415 incidents nationally, each potentially causing long delays and distress to those involved.

These recruitment events captured the spirit of that time when nobody expected the war to last so long or for the losses to be so severe. Unexpected has created a reinterpretation of the enthusiastic, optimistic recruitment events which encouraged the men and boys from Exeter to enlist in 1914.

We Will Remember 1914-18

This embroidered hanging is the creation of artist and embroidery tutor Adrienne Howells. The six foot high black and white artwork depicts scenes from the trenches, with red silk poppies appliquéd onto banners either side, honouring those who died in the First World War.

Poppies are available for visitors to write the name of a family member who served; each poppy will be sewn around the main image. All donations will go to support the work of the British Legion.

RAMM has a wonderful collection of clocks and watches. But before these were invented other ways were used to keep track of time including the stars, sundials, water clocks, hourglasses and candles. Make and decorate a sundial for your sunny spot.

Adults are expected to stay with their children while they participate and must remain with them if they are under 8 years of age. Some activities are messy so please wear clothes that can get dirty. Aprons will be provided. Tickets can be purchased on the day from the Garden reception.
