Dartmoor is a great place to get active and on 16 August Dartmoor National Park has organised a day of free activities and taster sessions for you to come and enjoy some adrenaline pumping summer fun.

Highlights include free guided walks departing at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm lasting approximately an hour.

Free guided cycle rides using the Tyrwhitt’s Tramway route departing at 11.30am and 2pm (bike hire is available on the day from Fox Tor Cafe or you can bring your own).

RWC 2015 try outs touch down in Exeter

England Rugby 2015, the Organising Committee for Rugby World Cup 2015 (RWC 2015), is in Exeter for the fourth leg of the volunteer Try Outs to find members of 'The Pack'.

The selection process is an exciting and informative experience where potential members of 'The Pack' will find out more about RWC 2015 and take part in a one-to-one interview. Motorcyclist seriously injured in A379 crash

A 27-year-old motorcyclist from Teignmouth has been seriously injured after being involved in a collision on the A379 between Kenton and Starcross today.

Police were called shortly before 7.45 this morning (Thursday 24 July) after a male motorcyclist was trapped under the red Mitsubishi Shogun, registered to Bristol.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics after being freed by the fire service, and then taken by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

His injuries are said to be life threatening.

The road was closed between Powderham and Kenton...

£9m to tackle fuel poverty

A number of families in Exeter will get a warmer home this winter and beyond thanks to CosyDevon – an energy saving scheme launched today by Exeter City Council and eight other local authorities which will see up to £9 million invested in improving homes across the county.

Delivered in partnership with E.ON, one of the UK’s leading energy companies, CosyDevon is offering up to 7,000 free or subsidised insulation and heating measures for Devon’s homes, supporting local jobs and saving an estimated 156,000 tonnes of C02.

First students graduate from course funded by PCC’s small grant

The first three students have completed an exciting course funded by Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg’s small grant scheme.

Grow 4 Good, based in the grounds of Dartmoor Zoo, Sparkwell, received a grant of £2,789 from Tony Hogg’s small grant scheme for a new project called Ticket 2 Work which allows 12 people between 16 and 25 to achieve the City and Guilds NPTC level 2 certificate of competence in brushcutting.

Donkey Sanctuary launches first Wildlife Week

The Donkey Sanctuary is launching its first ever Wildlife Week to give the whole family a thrilling insight into the natural world from the unique vantage point of The Donkey Sanctuary.

Running from Sunday 27 July it coincides with the school holidays and culminates with a fascinating Wild Night Out nocturnal nature hunt on Saturday 2 August.

Cancer survivor to start Race for Life

A courageous schoolgirl who has survived leukaemia will sound an air horn to start Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Exeter on Sunday, 27 July at 10am.

Jasmine Larkman, aged 11, from Crediton, will be the guest of honour at the event at Westpoint Exeter.

She will start the formidable army of nearly 4,000 women on their way round the 5k and 10k routes to raise money for Cancer Research UK’s pioneering work.

Among the sea of women are many who have survived cancer themselves or are participating in memory or celebration of loved ones.
