Artist Reflections: Polly Morgan

The first of four artists’ responses to RAMM’s collections Polly Morgan’s You Are Here is on display from August.

Polly studied with Scottish taxidermist George Jamieson, and over the past ten years she has played with taxidermy traditions, creating unsettling sculptures that question our often sentimentalised view of the natural world. Her art has caught the imagination of collectors, curators and audiences around the world and she has exhibited in Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the UK and US.

Commemorating the outbreak of the First World War with works by Walter Bayes and Muirhead Bone, RAMM’s portrait collection will also be represented by two naval heroes of the Napoleonic era with Devon connections - Admiral Edward Pellew and Captain Charles Proby. Pellew rose to become commander of the Mediterranean fleet and a national celebrity after the Bombardment of Algiers whilst Proby also gave outstanding service in the seven years war and the American war of independence.

Following a hugely successful return tour in 2013, Steve Howe returns to the UK in September to play some of his more familiar pieces plus several new tunes like Solitaire from Yes’s Fly From Here album, The Golden Mean and others from Motif, plus various arrangements of Yes songs and other tunes he’s picked up along the way. A few stories thrown in for good measure should ensure a great evening.
