The UK’s leading marine charity says it hopes people who love the coast around Devon will take part in a nationwide beach clean event which includes clean-ups at Beacon Cove, Slapton Sands, Seaton, Dawlish Warren, Cockleridge, Instow and Croyde. The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) runs regular beach cleans around the UK which this year will culminate in the Great British Beach Clean over the weekend of the 19th-22nd September. Major blaze at Devon farm

Firefighters are tackling a major blaze at a farm in Cullompon today.

The report from the control team is below:

The Fire Service received several calls reporting a barn on fire at Clayhidon, Cullompton. Two fire appliance from Wellington, two fire appliances Taunton and the water carrier from Bridgwater attended.

Fire crews confirmed two barns well alight. All stock had been removed from the barns prior to the arrival of the Fire Service. The fire was spreading to an adjacent workshop.

Residents had concerns about crossing

Residents living close to a pedestrian crossing where a 12-year-old boy was killed, today said they had predicted a serious accident would happen there.

The collision with a lorry happened on the crossing on the Topsham side of Countess Wear roundabout last Thursday afternoon (28 August).

The boy, from Exeter, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The lorry driver was uninjured.

New research which finds that invisible blood in urine may be an early warning sign of bladder cancer is likely to shape guidelines for clinicians.

Scientists at the University of Exeter Medical School found that one in 60 people over the age of 60 who had invisible blood in their urine (identified by their GP testing their urine) transpired to have bladder cancer. Boy killed in crossing accident named

The 12-year-old boy killed in an accident at an Exeter crossing has been named as Leo Gregory.

And police today appealed for a cyclist seen on CCTV near the scene to come forward.

Road to be closed at Exton for repairs

Essential reconstruction and resurfacing will be carried out on the A376 at Exton this month.

Drainage work and footway resurfacing will initially be undertaken overnight on Monday 8 September and Tuesday 9 September, from 6.30pm to 7am, using four-way traffic signals.
