Bag It. Beat It. and help fight heart disease

The British Heart Foundation shops’ Bag It. Beat It. stock appeal is under way in Exeter.

The campaign was officially launched at Princesshay on 5 September by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Percy Prowse, when he donated the first bag of items.

Every bag donated to the Bag It. Beat It. campaign this September will fund life-saving heart research, helping over 40,000 little heroes continue to fight congenital heart disease.

8 arrested in human trafficking investigation

Eight people have today been arrested after a series of successful warrants were carried out in Plymouth and Cornwall as part of a major investigation into human trafficking and modern slavery. Search warrants were executed this morning, Tuesday 16 September, under the Immigration and Asylum Act at five properties in Plymouth and one address in Bodmin. Police arrested eight people, five women, aged between 26 and 34, and three men, aged between 35 and 37, on suspicion of trafficking people into the UK for the purpose of labour exploitation and on suspicion of money laundering. The first ever Devon Wine and Music Festival at the renowned Pebblebed Vineyard at Clyst St George, near Exeter, was a huge success.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of this very special festival – the high quality singers and musicians came from within a five mile radius and the food was local too.

Wine tasting from seven Devon vineyards took place in the barn and the rural idyllic scene was complete with children enjoying the space and freedom to have a straw bale fight, pick blackberries and race around the vineyard fields.

Green Party members in Exeter have selected Diana Moore as their parliamentary candidate for the 2015 general election. Ms Moore is a business advisor with extensive experience working with social enterprises, charities and councils across the South West and is a director on the boards of two local cooperatives and a social enterprise. Exeter Chiefs star Jack Nowell says he has never "felt so good" on a rugby pitch after he marked his return to competitive action by claiming a try-double in Monday night's A League victory over London Welsh.

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies will be joining in with Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ on Friday 26th September by hosting a ‘Big Breakfast Morning’. Royal approval for Exeter School pupils

Three Economics A Level pupils from Exeter School have been highly commended in the prestigious Royal Economics Society Essay competition.

Max Brewer, Matthew Hills and Charlie Holmes wrote essays on one of six different topics, competing against over 1,600 entrants.

Upper Sixth Former Max was placed on the shortlist of final entrants, putting him in the top ten for his essay entitled: ‘Promoting growth and fighting poverty should be the priority in the developing world, not reducing greenhouse gases’.

Racing starts at 2:15pm and gates open at 12:15pm.

Top chefs judge ‘cake-off’ competition

Sixteen bakers from South West Communications Group went head to head with a charity ‘cake-off’ competition.

The ‘cake-off’ event was the latest leg of a year-long inter-departmental competition.

Two people from each of the eight teams were invited to bake either a Victoria sponge or a cake of their choice.
