£1m research grant for Exeter academics

The University of Exeter has been awarded £1 million by the Wellcome Trust to establish an initiative aimed at advancing our understanding of living systems and the causes of disease.

The Wellcome Trust’s Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF) will greatly enhance the University's capability and capacity in bio-medical data modeling and analysis. It builds upon the successful Biomedical Informatics Hub, previously funded through the Wellcome Trust ISSF.

Supercomputer to create knowledge hub

Devon Air Ambulance shocked at break in

Staff at Devon Air Ambulance Trust were left distressed and angry after the charity’s retail shop in Cowick Street, Exeter, was burgled on Monday evening.

Thieves got away with a collection box having caused significant damage to the premises including smashing the shop window.

Mumm wants to make more memories

Dean Mumm says the opportunity is there for him and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates to go out and “start making new memories” ahead of the club’s defence of their LV= Cup crown this weekend.

Devon and Cornwall Police have launched a campaign encouraging residents who do not want to be bothered by trick-or-treaters to place this poster on the front door or window of their home.

Some people, particularly if elderly or vulnerable, might be distressed by strangers knocking at their door during the evening.

A spokesman said: "We are asking people not to call at homes that are displaying the poster.

Gold rings stolen from Honiton home

Police are investigating a burglary where distinctive gold rings were taken from a Honiton home. Offenders forced a window to get inside the property in Oaklea while the owners were away between 13 and 21 October. They stole four gold rings which are old and of great sentimental value.
