Environmental Health staff at East Devon District Council are working with colleagues at Exeter City Council and in the Fire Service to deliver free training and awareness sessions for owners of Bed and Breakfast establishments.

A local soldier is challenging himself to cycle 1000 km on a stationary bicycle for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision impaired ex-Service men and women. Steve Tonking, aged 34 and from Exeter, enjoys tackling fitness challenges and will be running the London Marathon for Blind Veterans UK later this year. Devon County Council this afternoon agreed to lower caps on subsidies for bus journeys that would otherwise have been withdrawn by their commercial operators for being unprofitable.
Currently one subsidised Devon service costs £22.95 for every passenger trip while another bus journey costs £19.38.
The measures were proposed as the authority faces saving £1.7 million out of its annual bus subsidy as a way of meeting the £50 million county council budget reduction required by Government spending cuts next year.

A car driver has died following a collision with a lorry on the A39 near Bideford this morning (Wednesday 14 January).
Police and other emergency services were called shortly before 6.53am to the collision.
