Music fans of all ages are being invited to put their knowledge to the test in The Big Fun Music Quiz in Tiverton.

Teams of up to six people are being sought for the quiz, which takes place at Tiverton Golf Club on Friday 10 April (7pm for 7.30pm) and will raise money for local charity Hospiscare.

Vision Express celebrates first wave of graduates

A group of youngsters are celebrating being the first graduates from an in-demand apprenticeship programme offering diverse career opportunities with national optical retailer Vision Express.

The 13-month employee-embedded scheme accepted its first recruits in February 2014, with Vision Express deluged by almost 3,000 applications to date.

Males that mate more often are more insecure about their social status than those mating less, according to new research on the behaviour of burying beetles.

The study, published tomorrow (Tuesday 10th March) in the journal Evolution, provides new evidence that the social sensitivity of male behaviour is linked to how often male beetles mate.

The Channel 4 hit show Come Dine With Me is back for a new daytime series.

Over five days five strangers, from all walks of life, take turns to host the perfect dinner party for each other.

At the end of the week the best host wins a £1,000 cash prize.

Exeter Cathedral appoints second female canon

Exeter Cathedral has appointed its second female canon in just a few months.

The Revd Victoria Thurtell will join the Cathedral this summer as Canon Precentor, looking after the Cathedral’s liturgy and music, and its choristers. All 36 boy and girl choristers attend the Cathedral School next door, and Vicky will also be priest to the school.

Canon Anna Norman Walker was appointed as the first full time women canon to the Cathedral in 900 years before Christmas. Vicky’s appointment means that the Cathedral now has two male and two female full time canons for the first time...

Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park is supporting a charity game of tag rugby which 15 year old organiser, Daniel, hopes will last more than 24 hours. Daniel, who attends Uffculme School, has a passion for sport, plays for Cullompton RFC U15's and is also an Army Cadet.

The 7-a-side Rug-a-thon will raise money for Help for Heroes, a charity Daniel has wanted to support from a young age. Daniel is looking for people of all ages and abilities to support the event at Uffculme School on Friday 20th March from 5pm through to the evening of Saturday 21st March.

Every picture tells a story

A remarkable exhibition spanning the 40 year career of one of the UK’s top photo journalists opens in Exeter this month.

Modestly titled More By Luck Than Judgement, the show consists of around 60 iconic photographs depicting some of the biggest news stories in the South West.

The man behind the lens is Richard Lappas (above), based in Exeter, whose award-winning pictures are still regularly seen in the UK’s national newspapers, particularly the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and Sunday Times. Devon Wildlife Trust is offering a very special Mother’s Day treat – and the good news is it’s free.

New business growth in South West slows to 21-month low

PMI® survey data signalled a loss of momentum in the South West private sector economy in February, with new business rising at the slowest rate since May 2013. Output growth moderated, and backlogs declined for the first time since last August. That said, firms continued to expand workforces during the month, and raised their charges at the strongest rate since last June.
