THE Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust has been shortlisted for a national award for its commitment to delivering excellent patient experience.

The Trust has been named as a finalist in the Patient Experience Network National Awards (PENNA) for its work to resolve complaints at the earliest possible stage.

Over the past two years the Trust has systematically changed the way it manages formal complaints.

Man sentenced for tobacco trading

An Exeter man has been sentenced for supplying illicit tobacco and DVDs following an investigation by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards service.

Philip Martin, 62, of Masefield Road, Exeter was charged with selling, and having available to supply, tobacco which did not have the legally required health warnings or the appropriate duty paid markings; and possessing a number of counterfeit DVDs with the intention to sell them.

The court also heard that the tobacco sold by Mr Martin was counterfeit.

Businesses are being urged to act quickly to secure the last few exhibition stands at the ‘early bird’ rate for Business Showcase South West 2015.

Exeter Chiefs fly half Henry Slade is included in the England squad preparing to face Scotland in the RBS 6 Nations clash on Saturday after Brad Barritt was ruled out of the reminder of the tournament.

Exeter Junior School welcomed back 1987 leaver Charlie Alder for World Book Day.

Author and illustrator Charlie, who studied A Level Drama at Exeter School, spent the morning of Thursday 5 March with Year 3 pupils and Junior School librarians sharing her first author illustrated picture book, Daredevil Duck.

During her workshop Charlie showed the children the journey from a doodle to an actual published book. The children were able to look at examples of Charlie’s work at every stage of this journey.

South West jobs maintain steady course

The jobs market in the South West has fallen this quarter but remains firmly in positive territory at +6%, according to Manpower, the world’s workforce experts.

This Outlook is in line with the UK national average and puts the South West on a steady course after a couple of quarters of ups and downs in hiring intentions.

Two brave teams from the Santander Exeter branch and Bodial Nutrition will push themselves to the limit at the Exeter Rock Solid Race to raise money for St Loye’s Foundation.
