Results are now in of the Exeter BID Company Board Ballot to select three new Board members in the City Centre.

Jon-Paul Hedge, editor of the Express and Echo will represent Gandy Street, Harlequins & Queen Street, James Clark, store manager of Marks & Spencer will represent the Guildhall & Lower High Street and Stephen Auty manager of Specsavers will represent High Street North/West and Castle Street).

Applications were received and counted by solicitors Stephens Scown and all BID levy payers were eligible to vote on their preferred representative for each area...

International MPs to observe elections

A group of MPs from Canada, India, Pakistan and the Republic of Seychelles is to observe the UK’s general election in Exeter, spending 4 to 8 May in the constituency.

They will observe Election Day procedures – from the opening of polling stations throughout the voting, to their closing, and the counting of ballots – and will meet with candidates from all the major parties, returning officer, local officials, community groups and other relevant stakeholders in order to observe the conduct of the election in Exeter and the environment in which it will take place.

Princess Anne to visit Devon County Show

HRH The Princess Royal will attend the opening day of the Devon County Show on Thursday, May 21.

It will be Princess Anne’s first visit to the Devon County Show at Westpoint, Exeter; she visited the former showground at Whipton in the city in 1985.

During her visit she will be accompanied by David Parish, President of the Devon County Agricultural Association.

He said: “Her Royal Highness is a great champion for farming and rural issues just as the Devon County Show is also a terrific showcase for farming and rural life.”

Police crackdown on illegal raves

Devon and Cornwall Police are calling upon the public to help them prevent and disrupt illegal raves over the busy May Bank Holiday.

The Force will be running Operation Derig to take a tough stance against rave goers and organisers by closing down illegal gatherings.

Dedicated officers will patrol potential rave sites due to the increased risk of illegal events over the holiday weekend.

Trust gains national recognition for use of high-tech eRoster system

The Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust was highly commended at a national awards ceremony for its use of a high-tech electronic system to ensure safe staffing levels.

The Trust was a finalist in the ‘project team of the year’ category at the annual Allocate Awards in Birmingham.

The Trust has used the HealthRoster staff management system since 2008.

It has since become one of the first Trusts in the country to roll out additional software called SafeCare and CAM.

Prospective homeowners flocked to Millbrook Village – Exeter’s first luxury retirement village – on Friday 17th April as it opened its new show home to the public for the first time.
