Numbers of claimants of Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA) in Devon continued to fall in May to just 3,720, representing just 0.8% of the county’s working age population, down from 0.9% in the previous month. This is the lowest number of claimants in the County since records began in 1983.

The percentage drop in claimants fell by 6.4% between April and May 2015. This is in comparison to the UK average drop of 4.3% over the same period.

When compared with figures from a year ago, JSA claimants are 30% lower than in May 2014 and nearly 60% lower than in May 2011.

Majority fail to check flood risk levels

As we approach the anniversary of the June 2007 summer floods, people in Britain are still not checking the flood risk of their homes, in spite of increased incidents of flooding in recent years.

Those in the North East were the least likely to have carried out any checks, with 88% confirming they had never researched their flood risk, despite major floods occurring in areas such as Hartlepool,...

Morchard Bishop Flower Festival

Event Date:
20/06/2015 - 10:00am to 21/06/2015 - 4:30pm
Venue:
St Mary's Church, Morchard Bishop

This year the flower festival will transport you back to your childhood (farther away for some than others!) as the theme is Nursery Rhymes.

Around 20 displays will be on show in this beautiful old church, from Oranges and Lemons to Little Miss Muffet (watch out for the spider, only joking not real) and many more. The arrangers are hard at work designing their displays and it will be a delight, as always, to see the church filled with flowers.

Also there will be a splendid In Memoriam flower display, alongside the names of those to be remembered.
