New deals for Chiefs favourites

The new season has yet to start for the Exeter Chiefs, but head coach Rob Baxter is already hard at work planning for the future with the news that two of his first-team squad have today agreed contract extensions.

Welsh international Tomas Francis, along with centre Sam Hill, have both put pen to paper on new deals that will keep them at Sandy Park until 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Exeter project wins lottery funding

Exeter Historic Buildings Trust (EHBT) has received a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project, ‘Monks in the Refectory’.

Led by EHBT, the project has been given £7,500 towards creating a set of five new interpretation panels, which will help visitors to 21 The Mint (the former refectory wing of 11th century St Nicholas Priory) to understand daily life in the Priory.

EHBT’s mission statement is to preserve for the benefit of the people of Exeter, buildings in and around Exeter of particular historic or architectural merit.

RGB Building Supplies, which has a branch on Alphinbrook Road, Exeter, has been recognised in the national Build It Awards for the second year running.

Drinkers subsidise teetotallers with tax

The direct costs of alcohol use to the government in England – including NHS, police, criminal justice and welfare costs – amount to just under £4 billion each year, whilst revenues from alcohol taxes amount to over £10 billion.

Using the most recent health, crime and drinking data, a report by the Institute of Economic Affairs claims that contrary to popular belief, drinkers are not a burden on the taxpayer. Kitsons launch charity will scheme

Devon law firm Kitsons has teamed up with FORCE Cancer Charity to offer supporters the opportunity to make or update their Will, in return for a donation to the charity.

Las Iguanas has rebuked claims that their staff are made to ‘pay to work’.

In a posting on The Exeter Daily last night, 38 Degrees said people in Exeter are taking action to stop the restaurant forcing staff to pay back 3% of their total sales at the end of each shift.
