Price cap for electricity pre-payment customers

Customers on pre-payment meters, who are among the most vulnerable and least likely to switch, will be protected by an interim price cap which will save them around £75 a year from next April.

That was one of a number of responses announced by Ofgem in response to recommnedations made by the Competition and Market Authority (CMA).

The CMA’s two year investigation, which concluded last month, confirmed that two thirds of households are disengaged and paying over the odds for their energy compared to those who have switched tariff.

Over 3,000 professionals across a variety of sectors were quizzed on the importance of flexibility in today’s working life. 'Mum Market' is a money spinner

Parents and parents to be flocked to America hall in Pinhoe in search of some bargains at the mum2mum market.

More than 150 parents shopped for quality second hand baby and children’s goods. Children’s clothes, toys designer prams and nursery equipment were amongst the many bargains on offer. Some parents queued for over half an hour to make sure they got the pick of the bargains.

Proms success at Bicton Gardens

The beautiful gardens of Bicton Park were awash with red, white and blue as 900 people enjoyed a spectacular show for Hospiscare’s Proms in the Park last Saturday.

The rain clouds stayed away as the night opened with the big brass sounds of the South West Comms Band who were followed by the gifted voices of India’s finest tenor, Anando Mukerjee and the UK’s own inspirational Laure Meloy.

The musical arrangement included songs from musicals and popular operatic arias such as La Traviata and Boheme.

Oxjam Exeter’s 2nd fundraiser, the Live Below the Line challenge, had outstanding success; raising over £1300 – much more than they ever expected.

Topsham once supported a multitude of different shops and tradesmen. Do come and see photographs from the Museum collection showing how these shops looked,where they were, what they sold and who ran them.

We will be using many oral history recollections as well as census information, photographs, newspaper advertisements and even printed paper bags to trace the history of some of the buildings in Fore Street and High Street.

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS), the UK’s leading marine charity, says the number of jellyfish blooms- when jellies mass together - in UK coastal waters is on the increase as our seas start to warm up.

Every summer hundreds of reports of jellyfish sightings are made to the MCS National Jellyfish Survey – now in its 14th year. The survey is providing valuable information about where and when jellyfish occur in UK seas amid global reports of a rise in jellyfish numbers.
