Plymouth Science Park tenant Louise Pasterfield, owner of Sponge UK, has received a national award for her outstanding business at the Venus Awards this year.

The National Venus Awards celebrate the success of women in business and this year Devon’s finalists took four of the national top prizes.

Exeter pub evacuated after fire

An Exeter pub was evacuated this morning after a tumble drier caught fire.

Fire crews were called just before 1am to the Mill on the Exe in Bonhay Road after the landlord reported the laundry room within the property was smoke logged. Firefighters instructed the landlord to evacuate the building and three pumping appliances from Exeter were mobilsed to the scene.

Upon arrival the area in and around the ground floor laundry room were found to be heavily smoke logged.

Devon’s greenest awards open for entry

The Devon Environmental Business Initiative (DEBI) Awards are now open for entry.

The awards are open to any organisation of any size in the Devon region, and encompass business, community and education.

All entrants need to do is show how their organisation is committed to operating in environmentally friendly ways, whether through day to day operations or a specific green initiative. Fire Service works with NHS to enhance patients' safety

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are delighted to announce that they have signed a partnership agreement with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust to enable NHS Practitioners to refer patients for free home fire safety visits. The agreement came about after the formation of the multi-agency Bariatric and plus size working group which was looking at how the NHS and Fire Service could work together to reduce risk in this client group. Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter says his decision to agree contract extensions with two more of his first team squad is just reward for the efforts shown by the players themselves.

The TechExeter Conference at the University of Exeter on the 8th October is shaping up to be one of the biggest tech events in the region.

Brexit uncertainty dampens activity in SW housing market

Uncertainty fuelled by the EU Referendum has resulted in a marked drop in activity in the South West housing market, according to the RICS UK Residential Market Survey, June 2016.

New buyer enquiries declined significantly across the UK in June, with 36% more chartered surveyors nationally reporting a fall in interest - this is the lowest reading since mid-2008. The South West fared somewhat better however, with just 4% more respondents reporting a decline in buyer demand (as opposed to a rise). Nevertheless, this does follow a particularly steep decline during May.
