Local heroes to switch on Exeter’s Christmas Lights

Representatives from the Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are all set to switch on Exeter’s Christmas lights on Thursday 17th November.

Organisers of the Exeter Christmas light switch on event, Exeter BID, have been working to come up with a solution following the errors made by Ben Haenow’s management that, due to a double booking by his agent, Ben Haenow is no longer able to switch on the Christmas lights in Exeter on Thursday 17th November.

Aspiring teachers from Exeter with the passion and potential to teach are being encouraged to attend the Train to Teach roadshow when it comes to the Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel on Tuesday 15 November. New business wins drive SW economic growth

Private sector firms in the South West continued to recover from economic uncertainty in October, driven by the fastest gain in new business since the start of 2015, according to the latest Lloyds Bank Regional PMI.

The South West PMI® registered 53.6, down slightly from September’s 54.5 but still indicating growth in business activity. A PMI reading above 50 signifies growth in business activity, and the greater the divergence from the 50 mark, the faster the rate of change.

Primary academy trust to run ‘virtual’ online open days

An East Devon primary school trust is holding ‘virtual’ online open days over the next few weeks, using technology to help parents decide on the right school for their children. The events will take place on 15 and 23 November and 6 December, and there will also be conventional open events on 22 and 30 November.

Prize draw prompts 1,800 pledges to 'love their clothes'

A Crediton curate has won Recycle Devon prize draw by pledging to reduce the amount of unwanted clothing she throws away.

The Reverend Helen Drever of Crediton Parish Church won a £45 laundry ‘bucket’ made from ‘upcycled’ sailcloth donated by Sails and Canvas in Topsham.

The draw was part of the Love Your Clothes campaign which aimed to change the way Devon consumers buy, use and dispose of their clothing.

The £10 vouchers winners are Sandy Parle from Seaton, Kathy Tagg from Exeter and Jane Rosewell from Clyst Honiton.
