Recruit Princesshay to host Jobs Fair

On Wednesday 26th October, Recruit Princesshay will host its first jobs fair on Bedford Street in Princesshay Shopping Centre between 10am – 4pm.

The Recruit Princesshay Jobs Fair is open to people from Exeter and the Heart of Devon who are looking for employment. Recruit Princesshay will highlight the latest live vacancies available at over 30 Princesshay stores and restaurants including Next, Byron, Fat Face and Wagamama, as well as other major employers in the city, working in partnership with Job Centre Plus.

Quarterly event sees large gathering of Exeter’s thriving independent businesses

The third It Happened Here event ran on Thursday 29th September at Camper Coffee in the heart of McCoy's Arcade on Fore Street. Set up as a quarterly collective gathering, the evening was well attended by over 120 local and small business owners and aspiring individuals from Exeter and beyond. A range of businesses attended and the evening provided a great informal occasion for people to get to know each other.

Big Energy Saving Week

FREE, impartial advice sessions which could help Exeter residents save more than £300 on their energy bills, are due to take place next week.

The three events are being run by Citizens Advice Exeter as part of the charity’s national Big Energy Saving Week and they are being supported by Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw.

The sessions, which are free to attend, will take place:

● October 31 at St Sidwell’s Centre, 10am-1pm. ● November 1 at Exeter Library, 10am-2pm ● November 4 at Exeter Library, 10am-2pm

Angel investors have given £1 million backing to an innovative website which helps the bereaved.

Exeter-based Funeral Zone predicts that it will double in size within the next six months as a result of the seven-figure windfall, creating new technology jobs in the city.

Funeral Zone, launched by childhood friends Ed Gallois and Kevin Homeyard in 2013, is an online resource which provides everything you need when somebody dies.

Carpet cleaning director guilty of fraud

A cleaning company director who scammed the elderly by offering to clean their carpets for a bargain price before massively hiking up the cost has been given a 12-month suspended sentence.

At Exeter Crown Court on Wednesday Adam Joseph Vallier, 34, of Hannington Road, Pokesdown, Bournemouth, was also ordered to carry out 250 hours of community service.

Vallier had been found guilty of unfair trading and fraud after a five-day trial on September 23.

A building at the heart of Devon and Cornwall police headquarters has been named in honour of much loved Falmouth PC Andy Hocking. Thousands of local people paraded through the town as a mark of respect when Andy died suddenly in March 2015. He was just 52. His impact on the local community was immense, and he epitomised everything that is good about neighbourhood policing. Exeter's Underground Passages needs you!

People who may have used the Underground Passages to shelter from the Blitz are being asked to help produce a short film.

Next year marks the 75th anniversary of the Exeter Blitz of 1942. To commemorate these events, Exeter’s Underground Passages plans to produce a short documentary about wartime Exeter and the night-time Baedeker raids the city suffered.

Exeter City Treasure Chest launches

A ‘treasure chest’ of Exeter City Football Club’s history has been launched at a big gathering of former players at St James Park.

The event on Saturday 22 October saw the official unveiling of The Grecian Archive – an on-line resource packed with items from Exeter City’s heritage.

The Archive has been overseen by the Exeter City History Group, a Supporters Trust initiative, and delivered and hosted by its partner the University of Exeter with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
