Leading audiology service and NHS partner, Chime Health is raising awareness of the Veteran’s Hearing fund ahead of armistice day. This scheme allows serving and ex-service men and women to gain free hearing help and equipment from Chime, thanks to Government funding.

Following the Royal British Legion’s ‘Lost Voices’ report in 2011, which highlighted the hearing issues faced by veterans, the organisation lobbied the UK Government to do more to help those with hearing loss. £4.5m funding for Tithebarn Link Road

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling MP visited Exeter’s Science Park on Thursday (yesterday) and announced £4.5 million of funding to enable Devon County Council to complete the Tithebarn Link Road.

The money, from Highways England’s Housing and Growth Fund, will help deliver the remainder of the Tithebarn Link Road and a new pedestrian / cycle bridge across the M5, adjacent to Tithebarn Lane bridge. Both projects are planned for completion by March 2018.

Exeter wins £1.5m funding for world-leading initiative to advance health research

The University of Exeter has been awarded £1.5 million by Wellcome to enable translation of findings from its world-leading research programmes into improvements in human health on a global scale.

The University has received the substantial grant from Wellcome’s Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF) – the third time it has successfully applied for funds through the leading scheme.

Police appeal for witnesses to A38 crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision that left one man in hospital with injuries.

Police were called at 10.30am on Thursday 20 October after reports of a two-vehicle collision having occurred on the A38 Southbound at Kennford, near Exeter.

Both North and Southbound carriageways were closed to facilitate the landing of the Air Ambulance. Northbound was opened shortly afterwards as was lane one, Southbound.

A 54-year-old man from Cullompton was taken to Derriford Hospital where he has since been released.

Street Heat leader to lose locks for charity

Young samba band leader Lucy Woolcock is making a double donation to charity on Saturday (22 October), with her hair raising funds for a good cause.

Lucy’s treasured tresses are to be lopped off to raise funds for Meningitis Now – and her lovely lost locks will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for child cancer sufferers.

Lucy, aged 26, has been a member of Exeter-based community samba band Street Heat for five years. The band has over 50 members of all ages and Lucy and was recently voted its joint music co-ordinator.

A building at the heart of Devon and Cornwall police headquarters is being named in honour of much loved Falmouth PC Andy Hocking. Thousands of local people paraded through the town as a mark of respect when Andy died suddenly in March 2015. He was just 52. His impact on the local community was immense, and he epitomised everything that is good about neighbourhood policing. Now, in addition to permanent tributes in Falmouth, his memory will live on at Middlemoor HQ in Exeter where new recruits will see his name on a daily basis as they begin their training and follow in his footsteps.
