University of Exeter launches largest ever fundraising campaign

The University of Exeter has launched its most ambitious philanthropic Campaign to date to reinforce its position as one of the leading research institutions worldwide.

The ‘Making the Exceptional Happen’ Campaign will raise £60 million by 2020 to support research into shared global challenges, including climate change, chronic disease and food security. The funds raised will leverage a further £100 million from research and corporate partners over this period.

Crisp Professional Development, Exeter’s long-established learning and development provider, have chosen Children’s Hospice South West as their 2017 Charity of the Year.

The charity, which supports life-limited children and their families, has 3 hospices in Devon, Cornwall and Bristol, providing respite, palliative and end of life care.

UB40 to headline Sounds of the Summer

Newton Abbot Racecourse is fast becoming one of the South West’s leading music venues with the announcement of its next annual music festival, Sounds of the Summer, which will take place this July.

Exeter and Plymouth based LHC Architecture + Urbanism has pledged a year-long programme of fundraising events in aid of the Children’s Hospice South West.

Half term fun in the East Devon countryside

During half term families can join the East Devon Countryside Rangers at Seaton Wetlands on Tuesday 14 February 2017 for a day of fun learning how to make gardens more wildlife friendly, followed by bird watching for children.

During the Wildlife Gardening event, which will take place between 10am to 2pm, one of the Countryside Rangers will demonstrate willow coppicing and refreshments will be served from the Discovery Hut. Red Triangle highlights FGM issue

This month marks the start of the Red Triangle Campaign, which aims to eradicate the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM).

The national campaign will run until International Women’s Day on March 8 using a symbolic small, downward facing red triangle to denote solidarity against FGM.

Concern for missing 30-year-old

Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of a 30-year-old female from the Sidmouth area called Tanya Vickery.

Tanya was last seen at approximately 22:40 hours on Tuesday 7th February on the Esplanade in Sidmouth near to The Marine pub from where she made her way onto the beach and has not been seen since.

Tanya is described as a white female, slim build, 5 ft 5 inches tall with black straight shoulder length hair, she was last seen wearing a white puffer jacket.
