A walking and cycling trail is being launched in Cranbrook next month (January) to help local residents explore the area.
The “Discover Cranbrook: The Long Orchard Trail” is being established by Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Cranbrook Town Council and Cranbrook New Community Partners Consortium to encourage people to get active and find out what’s on their doorstep.
Starting at the entrance of the Country Park at Long Orchard, the trail includes five posts which feature different rubbings – four around the park and a fifth at Cranbrook Train Station....
Devon County Council’s Cabinet (Wednesday 14 December) agreed to propose a preferred route to government for a £180 million improvement scheme for the A30.
Councillors approved recommendations to put the “Orange Route”, as modified through consultation, to the Secretary of State as the preferred route, for his view and potential implementation.

The Crown Estate and TH Real Estate’s plans for an extension to Princesshay Shopping Centre have been submitted to Exeter City Council for approval. Outline consent for the scheme was formally granted in July 2016. This saw the basic concept for the scheme approved, including things like its size and scale, and the types of uses that it will include. A charity run community café in Exeter will open its doors to the elderly and lonely on Christmas Day.
Café 55, run by national disability charity Sense, will offer a free Christmas lunch, with all the trimmings, for up to 30 people who would otherwise be spending the day alone. Guests will also be treated to some festive entertainment including carols sung by The Rediscover Church choir, and presents and food donated by the Pinhoe and Guildhall Sainsbury’s stores. The Fire Service were called to reports of a property fire in St Pauls Road, Honiton.
Fire Control mobilised two appliances from Honiton together with one appliance from Sidmouth, .
Upon arrival crews confirmed there to be a fire in a first floor flat, crews got to work using four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, thermal image camera and positive pressure ventilation to clear the smoke from the building. All occupants have been accounted for.
The cause of fire is believed to be deliberate ignition, 20% of flat damaged by fire and 80% damaged by smoke....
