PCC puts plans for a deputy on hold

Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez has put plans to appoint a deputy on hold after the Police and Crime Panel voted not to confirm Mark Kingscote in the role. Calls to RSPCA about hot pets topped 2,000 in June

The RSPCA is poised for a huge increase in the number of calls to its emergency hotline as more hot weather arrives this July - the worst month for incidents of dogs being left in hot cars.

The animal welfare charity - which works alongside 11 other animal charities and organisations to raise awareness of the dangers of leaving pets in hot cars - is predicting a peak in reports of animals suffering in the heat during the month of July - after receiving a huge 2,065 calls in June.

There are increasing concerns for an Exeter man who has not been seen for a number of weeks.

Gavin is described as a white man in his late 30's, 5"6 tall, of average build, shaved head, short grey beard, possibly walking with a limp.

His current whereabouts are not known and was last seen on 26th May.

Gavin is known to frequent the mid and south Devon areas as well as Exeter.

There are increasing concerns for his safety and that he may be in need medical attention.

Police appeal after serious assault in Exeter

Police are investigating a serious assault in Exeter which left a man with facial injuries.

The assault took place near to the taxi rank in Fore Street between 3.20am and 3.45am on Sunday 25 June.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, intervened in an ongoing fight and was then assaulted.

At least three male offenders are believed to have been involved and the victim sustained a broken nose and other facial injuries.

Police are investigating and keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault or have information to assist their enquiries.

Exeter revealed as UK city with highest debt levels

Despite being named by the Sunday Times as one of the top 10 most desirable cities to live in the UK, people living in Exeter owe an average of more than £20,000 each - according to a national free debt advice provider. Compiling a list of the top 10 UK cities with the highest debts, PayPlan found that people living in Exeter are saddled with debts of £20,375 from credit cards and loans – significantly more than the national average of £13,000, reported in recent figures revealed by the TUC.
