Pint of Science Exeter to take local science breakthroughs to city pubs

Experts from the University of Exeter and the Met Office will bring their research out of the laboratory and into city watering holes, as the world's largest festival of public science talks arrives in Exeter. next week

Pub goers will hear talks on everything from how science can future-proof seafood production to online social identity detection when 30 local researchers take to the stage as Exeter joins more than 100 cities around the world who will be taking part in a global festival from the 15th-17th May.

Honiton’s Helen shortlisted for Devon Sports Coach of the Year

Honiton Gymnastics Club high-performance coach Helen Reddy has been shortlisted for the Coach of the Year Award in the Devon Sports Awards 2017.

The Level 5 gymnastics coach, who has been involved in the sport for more than 30 years, will now attend a glittering awards ceremony at Sandy Park in June.

Helen has been recognised by awards’ judges thanks to her tireless work at both Honiton Gymnastics club (where she is a coach and board member) and at Ivybridge Community College (where she is Head of Performing Arts and runs the gymnastics academy).

Coffee lovers are being encouraged to drink from reusable cups when getting their take-outs in Exeter. Exeter City Council’s Recycling department will be handing out free limited edition Denis the Dustcart KeepCups at a series of giveaway events around the city. Exeter Racecourse concluded its season against the backdrop of stunning blue skies and a plethora of colour as ladies and gentlemen from across the region converged to celebrate ladies night.

Dozens came forward for the best dressed competitions, with Lynne Hailstone from Kingsteignton judged the overall winner.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, East Devon District Council's Countryside team has put together a walk to lift the mood and encourage people to spend time outdoors and explore the beautiful countryside.

The team helps to maintain the South West Coast Path for walkers to enjoy, in partnership with a number of other organisations and land owners, and countryside ranger, Dave Palmer has developed the three and a half mile walk from Beer Head car park to Branscombe. The walk takes in the spectacular views and stunning scenery along the Jurassic coast.
