Griffin Chartered Accountants has swelled its numbers by four less than a year after moving into new premises in Honiton - and the company looks set to recruit even more staff before the end of 2017.

Fourth time lucky for Matt at 40th Dartmoor Folk Festival

IT was fourth time lucky for Matt Norman at the 40th anniversary Dartmoor Folk Festival, held at South Zeal near Okehampton at the weekend.

Folk music, song and dance enthusiast Matt, from Bristol, was declared the champion adult Dartmoor Step Dance competition champion for 2017 after a hotly-fought competition.

Matt, formerly from South Zeal and Exeter, had previously won the title in 2008, 2011 and 2015 and now equals competitor Lisa Sture, from North Devon, who holds the record for having previously won the title on four occasions.

Putting on a musical show can be murder - as audiences will find out when The Mitre Players return to Dawlish's Shaftesbury Theatre with Curtains, a musical comedy whodunnit.

It's opening night and the leading lady is so dreadful, she is killing the show. But her final bow at the curtain call turns out to be her last - minutes later, she is dead. Enter musical theatre fan and local detective Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, who must crack the case and stop the body count climbing higher.

Hospiscare invites you to Holcombe Court’s Open Garden weekend

Local charity Hospiscare is delighted to announce that for the second year running there will an Open Garden weekend held on 23rd and 24th September at the beautiful private home, Holcombe Court in Holcombe Rogus.

Holcombe Court is a Grade I Tudor manor house situated on the border of Devon and Somerset, and its seven-acre garden is rarely open to the public.

The 2016 weekend raised over £4,000 to support Pine Lodge Day Hospice in Tiverton and it is hoped the amount will be beaten this year. The funds raised will prove invaluable towards ensuring that Hospiscare can...

SW employment rises at fastest rate for 18 months

Firms in the South West enjoyed a month of solid growth during July, with employment rising at the fastest rate in 18 months, according to the latest Lloyds Bank UK Regional PMI® survey.

The increase in job creation underlined an overall improvement in the region’s economic performance, with local firms seeing growth in new business orders and output levels.

The South West PMI rose to 54.0 in July, up from 52.6 in June. A reading greater than 50.0 signifies growth in business activity, whereas below 50 indicates a decline.

Staff from an Exeter commercial insurance broker Arthur J. Gallagher, based at Northernhay Place, came together with colleagues across three of its other South-West offices to tackle a two-day 170-mile cycling challenge in memory of much-loved, Exeter-based colleague, Claire Jarman, who sadly lost her life to cancer earlier this year.
