City 2 Stevenage 1

Exeter City moved back up into the automatic promotion places as they recorded a 2-1 victory at home to Stevenage.

The Grecians were the better side for the majority of the match and deservedly led 2-0 midway through the second half through goals from Lloyd James and Pierce Sweeney, but the visitors kept battling and set up a nervy finish with a volley from Matt Godden 11 minutes from time.

The players who visited the ward were captain Jordan Moore-Taylor, Dean Moxey, Jake Taylor, Lloyd James, Craig Woodman, Ryan Brunt and Robbie Simpson.

Mixed emotions for Wilson and Edwards, as Forest Green win sets up West Brom Showdown

Paul Tisdale was rightly proud of his team, as they overcame a stern challenge from Forest Green to emerge victorious after extra time last week. But for two players, the win has even more significance, as it signals the showdown they must have been anticipating with trepidation and anticipation in equal measure from the moment they saw the draw.

Kane Wilson is on loan to The Grecians from West Bromwich Albion, as is forward Kyle Edwards, and so there was an air of inevitability over the draw. Wilson told the team’s official site: “I just had a feeling it was going to be West Brom...

Leinster 22 Exeter Chiefs 17

Exeter’s search for a first European win over Leinster will continue for a day or two yet, but the Chiefs will ultimately be kicking themselves after letting a golden opportunity pass them by.

For at least an hour, Rob Baxter’s men were the dominant force in Dublin, producing a solid shift in this pulsating Round Four encounter.

Sadly, their hopes of downing the three-time champions at the Aviva Stadium evaporated late on as Luke McGrath’s late score, plus the boot of Isa Nacewa, ensured the home side maintained their unblemished record in Pool 3.

Up until then,...
