Plan revealed to close 15 public toilets in Exeter

Proposals to close a number of public toilets in Exeter which are no longer considered fit for purpose are set to be discussed by councillors. The City Council’s Executive will be asked to approve a public consultation on permanently closing 15 public conveniences to achieve budget savings and enable a balanced budget to be set. A report says that in common with many other cities, many of Exeter’s public toilets no longer serve the needs of residents and are costly to maintain.

Council reconsiders Public Space Protection Order on dog controls

Proposals to introduce a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for dog fouling and control are to be reconsidered by Teignbridge’s Full Council.

Council will meet on Monday 14 January at 10.30am to look again at the proposals.

The decision comes after the Executive re-examined the draft PSPO following recommendations by Overview and Scrutiny Committee (O&S) to alter elements of the draft order.

South West alumni urged to join programme boosting students’ university chances

Former students of state secondary schools in the South West are being urged to use their experience and skills of higher education to boost current students’ chances of going to university.

The programme in twenty-five secondary schools and three colleges is run by the national education charity Future First and funded by Next Steps South West, part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme which aims to widen participation in higher education, increasing the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in higher education by 2020.
