A determined buyer travelled from North West Germany to Honiton to secure his bid on the 19th century portrait of a Prussian Grand Duke.
Dr Johann van Lengerich learned of the sale of the portrait at Chilcotts Auctioneers from the internet and was so keen to purchase it that he made the journey on the day of the auction together with his young son.

Devon residents turned out in force last weekend to help break the record for the most items fixed in a single repair café.
The Big Fix was organised by Devon County Council and Exeter Repair Café on Saturday February 23 and around 800 people brought in at least 400 broken items to the event at Belmont Chapel, Exeter.
In total 32 volunteer general fixers, electricians, upcyclers and upholsterers from repair cafes cross Devon worked non-stop to repair 268 items throughout the day -- breaking the record set by Cambridge Repair Café in 2017 by 34 items.

With teeth like that, it’s hard to believe Western lowland gorilla Kiondo is a vegetarian. The 15-year-old, who weighs in at around 186 kilos and lives at Paignton Zoo in Devon, has an impressive set of gnashers.
He was spotted displaying to keepers and to his fascinated public by photographer and Zoo regular Miriam Haas.
Kiondo enjoys a diet of vegetables, including peppers, sweetcorn, tomatoes, chicory, cabbage, kale and lettuce. The giant vegetarian sets a fine example when it comes to healthy eating – though his table manners leave a little to be desired.
