Lympstone Manor is soon to once again be transformed into a car lovers paradise for Celebration of Speed 2019 – an event commemorating Michelin-starred chef patron Michael Caines' love of all things motoring. Following the success of 2018's event, this year marks its third consecutive year at the Manor.

RD&E physio wins 3,000 mile row across the Atlantic Ocean

A Physiotherapist from the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has completed an incredible 3,000 mile row across the Atlantic Ocean in aid of Surfers for Sewage.

Rosalind Holsgrove-West skippered team ‘Row for The Ocean’ to victory to win the ladies race and came in 10th place overall out of 30 teams taking part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. Despite some difficult tasks to overcome - including being pushed two miles backwards by the wind during a 30 minute rest – the team managed to complete the challenge in an impressive 43 days, 6 hours and 20 minutes....

Mecca Bingo to raise £80,000 for Variety with new Sunshine Flyer game

Mecca Bingo clubs around the country have teamed up with Variety the Children's Charity in order to help them in their support of children and young people across the UK who are disabled or disadvantaged.

Both renowned British brands have collaborated to create The Sunshine Flyer - a new bingo game costing £1, with 5p from each and every play being donated to the Variety Club of Great Britain in order to fund their incredible work.

Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their ranks ahead of the new season by recruiting former Harlequins forward Stan South.

The 22-year-old, who can play either at lock or in the back-row, is Rob Baxter's fourth capture of the close season, joining the likes of Stuart Hogg, Tom Price and Will Witty in making the move to Sandy Park.

An installation to celebrate the first moon landing

Composer Simon Belshaw has launched a kickstarter campaign to create an installation celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing which will be sited in St Thomas Library.

This project will build a model of Apollo 11 and a representation of the moon's surface, similar to the type of display you would see in a museum. Simon is interested in generative music and disruption to musical processes. As part of his work he developed a number of, what he terms, Music Machines that explore these ideas. Work begins on Pinhoe Station Road play area

Work has begun on the £110k refurbishment of a play area in Exeter.

Cllr David Harvey, Lead Councillor for Environment and City Development, got construction underway by cutting the first turf at Pinhoe Station Road.

The facility is being rebuilt by Exeter City Council after locals were asked what sort of play equipment they would like to see introduced. Work will be completed over the summer.

81% of renters in the South West are unable to purchase a property over the next five years

Four out of five (81%) renters in the South West are unable to purchase a property over the next five years, according to the Affordable Housing Commission. Using the new approach set out in its recent report: ‘Defining and measuring housing affordability – an alternative approach’, it reveals that 430,000 households in the South West are living in unaffordable housing, a total of 18% of households in the region.

Children are increasingly being targeted on the web by sex offenders – with an average of 22 crimes a day taking place online last year, NSPCC figures have revealed.

Last year, a record 8,224 child sexual offences logged by police in England, Wales and Northern Ireland had an online element, according to figures obtained by the NSPCC through a Freedom of Information request.
