Exeter’s array of standout workplaces revealed

Celebrating the best workspaces in and around Exeter, the Space Awards help share best practice as part of the Future of the Workspace initiative launched by Space, in partnership with Exeter City Council and Exeter Chamber. The awards have been backed by a host of organisations, with Nettl, Stephens Scown LLP, Sampson Hall Ltd and Grow amongst the sponsors and supporters.

SW AHSN, Oneserve, 8 Technology, The Organic Agency, Air Marketing Group, VPG Exeter (TDDS) and Air Control Industries Ltd are all shortlisted for the prestigious Best Workspace Award. These companies will now be visited by the judges over the coming weeks as part of the process to decide a winner.

For the Wow! Award, Land Rover Experience, Nettl, SW AHSN and Air Marketing Group are shortlisted, whilst up for Best Corporate Workspace Award are Maistro, Bishop Fleming LLP, VPG Exeter (TDDS), Oneserve and Air Control Industries Ltd. 

For Best Employee Initiative, Riverford, Oneserve, Air Marketing Group and Awcock Ward are shortlisted, while The Lighthouse Sidmouth, Office at No.1 and Pynes Hill Business Centre are up for Best Co-Working Space.

Tim Wadsworth, Director of Exeter-based office transformation specialists Space, who are running the awards, said: “After the brilliant response to last year’s awards, we’re really excited to discover even more fantastic workspaces and work initiatives across Exeter. It’s wonderful to see that companies understand that a great workspace results in a happier and more productive workforce, which helps to attract and retain the very best talent.

“This year’s standard of entries was incredibly high, and came from a wide range of organisations, from smaller one-person companies right through to national brands. Congratulations to those who made the shortlist, and well done to all who entered. It’s really encouraging to see such positive strides being made in the workplace.”

Shortlists for the fun Best Desk category include entrants from Timewade, Carousel Calendars, Judy Salmon, Astley Media, Beckworth Financial Services Limited and Momentum South West Ltd. Meanwhile, Oneserve, Troy UK, Awcock Ward Partnership and Airmarketing Group are all in the running for the Well-being Award. 

Other awards up for grabs include Coolest Space, with Venaspace, SW AHSN, Air Control Industries Ltd and The Organic Agency all in the running. 

Venaspace, 8 Technology, Land Rover Experience and Grow all go head to head for Best Office Feature Award.

The judging panel included Sally Basker, Chief Executive of Exeter Science Park, Jo Caine, Co-Owner of Cathedral Appointments and Exeter Chamber Director, Tim Wadsworth, Director of Space, Julie Hawker, joint CEO of Cosmic, Robert Chalk, Managing Director of Chalk and Ward, Victoria Hatfield, Growth and Commercialisation Manager of Exeter City Council and Marie Turner, Group Facilities Manager of Livewest. 

Jo Caine, Exeter Chamber director and co-owner of Cathedral Appointments, said: It’s fantastic to be part of an initiative that promotes a greater focus on the well-being and mental health of employees, through the lens of bettering the workplace. We are seeing the increasing emergence of approaches and workspaces that highlight the importance and benefits of positive working spaces and initiatives, which can only enhance the strength of Exeter’s reputation as a wonderful place to live and work.”

All shortlisted companies will be invited to a celebratory event on Thursday 18July at Space’s new office in Southernhay, Exeter, with the awards’ ceremony to follow in late September.
