150 people gathered at Hotel du Vin to learn about a new initiative from Exeter Chamber, Exeter City Council and Air Marketing, Tribe. The local buying initiative will encourage businesses within Greater Exeter to choose local suppliers where possible. Top 30 accountancy firm, Bishop Fleming have employed a record number of graduates and school leavers as the firm continues to expand.

The recruitment of 25 graduates, seven school leavers and two 12-month industrial placements comes as the firm celebrates its centenary year and looks to the future.

Hiring a total of 34 trainees, the new intake will work across the firm’s seven offices, in the South West and Midlands. Each trainee will receive significant support as they undertake training programmes to gain their accountancy qualifications.

Naomi the grey gibbon, one of the oldest residents of Paignton Zoo, has died.

Animal staff and in-house vets took the difficult decision to put her to sleep after she became seriously ill. Zoo spokesperson Phil Knowling: “She went downhill quickly. A group of Exeter College students recently returned from Honduras after working with conservation research organization Operation Wallacea.

A Level students travelled to Cusuco National Park in Honduras after their exams to work with scientists collecting vital data for use in their research on biodiversity and climate change.

Students gained hands-on experience of monitoring biodiversity within the rainforest, as well as a real life an insight into many of the topics they had studied at college.

The family owners of a Devon holiday park are involving guests in their bid to turn the tide on the scourge of plastic which is polluting West Country beaches.

Ladram Bay Holiday Park near Budleigh Salterton in East Devon is aiming to retrieve one ton of waste washed up on its private beach over the coming months.

The growing total of discarded plastics gathered will be shown by a rising column of sand on a special display board near the beach path.
