Devon women invited to explore careers in homebuilding at Exeter site
Applications are now open until 20 September for a hands-on placement at Tilia Homes’ Brook Manor development near Alphington.
Women in Devon who are considering a new career are being invited to apply for a practical introduction to working in homebuilding at a new development on the edge of Exeter.
Housebuilder untypical, through its Tilia Homes brand, is offering placements at Brook Manor near Alphington as part of the Women into Home Building programme. The deadline for applications is 20 September.
Participants will receive online training and industry insight before spending two weeks gaining experience on a live construction site. The programme is designed to help women see first-hand the range of roles available in homebuilding, including site management, technical, commercial and customer-facing careers.
Brook Manor will deliver 182 new homes for Exeter, ranging from one- to four-bedroom properties. The placement gives successful applicants the chance to understand how a development of this scale is built and the different skills involved in bringing new homes to the area.
Amelia Maydom, Head of Learning & Development at untypical, said: “We want more women in Devon to see homebuilding as a career with real opportunities to learn, progress and take on leadership roles.
“Brook Manor is a great place to gain that insight. Participants will spend time on a live Exeter development, meet people working across the site team and discover that there are many routes into the industry, whatever their previous experience.
“With applications closing on 20 September, we would encourage anyone who is curious about a career change or returning to work to find out more.”
Women into Home Building is an initiative from the Home Builders Federation, delivered by Pathway CTM. Over three weeks, participants complete online learning followed by a two-week placement with a participating homebuilder. Travel and childcare support may be available through the programme.
The initiative has already helped more than 60 women secure jobs in homebuilding nationwide including Claire Follows, who joined the homebuilding industry through Women into Home Building and is now a Trainee Assistant Site Manager with untypical.
Claire said: “The programme helped me recognise the transferable skills I already had. As a single mum returning to work after caring for my children, it gave me the confidence to see that people from all walks of life can build a career on site.”
