Making a difference for blind or partially sighted people in Devon
ENERGETIC optometrist Emily Bennett is donating much-needed funds to help people living with sight loss.
Emily, who works at Specsavers Exeter, raised the money by taking part in the Great West Run Half Marathon, after which she collected £440 for Devon in Sight.
She says: ‘Through my work in Specsavers, I see first-hand the impact that sight loss can have on people’s lives.
‘It’s not just about vision – it can affect independence, confidence, mental health, and daily activities that many of us take for granted.
‘Devon in Sight provides vital support, advice and resources to help people adapt, stay independent and feel less alone. The work they do genuinely makes a difference to so many people and families.
‘Running a half marathon was a big personal challenge for me, but knowing I was doing it for such a meaningful cause kept me going every step of the way.
‘I’m still taking donations at my JustGiving page, so I’d be so grateful to anyone able to contribute. Every donation will help support people living with sight loss.’
Emily was supported in the lead-up to the Great West run by her colleagues at Specsavers Exeter, who encouraged her throughout her training and donated to her fundraising total.
Emma Denham, a director at the locally owned and run store, says: ‘Emily’s a wonderful person and a superb optometrist.
‘She really cares about her work and the people she treats, so it’s no surprise to any of us that she wanted to do this endurance event for such a wonderful cause.’
