Lord Mayor Officially Opens Tops Day Nurseries Exeter

Tops Exeter has officially opened its doors to children and families in the city, marking the occasion with a vibrant celebration featuring catered refreshments, children’s activities and a special ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Anne Jobson. The new eco‑conscious nursery, part of the Tops Day Nurseries family, welcomed parents, carers and local partners to explore the setting, meet the team and find out more about the flexible childcare on offer.

Guests enjoyed a delicious catered spread, made by the award winning Tops catering team. It included a sample menu featuring a katsu curry and tagine, showcasing the nursery’s focus on nutritious and appealing meals for young children. Families were able to see first-hand how Tops supports healthy eating habits as part of the daily nursery routine.

Cllr Anne Jobson officially opened the nursery by cutting a ceremonial ribbon and unveiling a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion. The Lord Mayor spent time speaking with staff and families, recognising the importance of high‑quality early years provision for working parents in Exeter.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Anne Jobson, said: "I was delighted to be invited to open Tops Day Nurseries Exeter, which operates close to the University. Both the tour of the nursery the opportunity to meet many of the team showed not only a warm, but a community-focused and sustainable approach, which was very impressive."

Children and families were also treated to engaging music‑and‑movement sessions from Boogie Mites, giving little ones the chance to join in with songs, rhythm and active play. Activity areas throughout the nursery offered hands‑on fun and exploration, helping to showcase the learning‑rich environment Tops Exeter provides every day.

Senior Nursery Manager Kayleigh Parsons said: “We are delighted to officially open Tops Exeter and to welcome so many families into our new nursery. Our team has worked hard to create a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment, and it’s wonderful to see children already exploring the rooms and activities. It was also a pleasure to welcome Lord Mayor Cllr Anne Jobson to formally open the nursery, she showed great interest in our spaces and what we offer.”

Tops Exeter offers flexible childcare for children aged from 9 months to preschool, with a new pilot of flexible funded hours that lets families choose when to use their entitlement while still benefiting from core learning blocks that support uninterrupted play and learning. The nursery supports local families with extended opening hours and a strong focus on sustainability and high‑quality early education.
