Celebrity Chef Rosemary Shrager raves about "The Best Fish and Chips" at Devon’s The Old Thatch Inn
Renowned celebrity chef and television personality Rosemary Shrager delighted staff and diners during a surprise visit to The Old Thatch Inn, a charming village pub and restaurant nestled in the heart of Cheriton Bishop.
After enjoying a standout meal, Shrager took to her Instagram Stories to share a glowing review.
“I have to tell you, I have just had the best fish and chips - thin batter, crispy. Pierre Koffmann’s potatoes - oh my gosh! His chips are amazing, wonderful. But also, lovely proper peas with mint and butter. Everything was perfect and the most beautiful homemade dill tartare sauce. Seriously, it’s worth taking the turn from the A30!”
The visit came as a welcome surprise to Richard, head chef, who owns the pub with his wife Kate.
“We’re absolutely honoured by Rosemary’s kind words,” said Richard. “Her enthusiasm and appreciation mean the world to our team here.”
Since taking ownership two and a half years ago, Richard and Kate have continued to build on The Old Thatch Inn’s reputation as a beloved village pub. Their ever-evolving menu features fresh, locally sourced ingredients, showcasing classic British dishes alongside seasonal specials.
Featuring renovated B&B rooms, a charming beer garden and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, The Old Thatch Inn is regularly praised by locals and visitors for its quality, hospitality and community spirit - making it a true Cheriton Bishop favourite.
