COVID 19 has had a devastating impact on charities revenues with mass event cancellations and charity shop closures. In a bid to weather the pandemic, local charity Exeter Leukaemia Fund (Elf) has been busy contacting celebrities and sports personalities with a plea for donations for their ‘Celebrity Lockdown Auction’.

Exeter Chiefs rugby stars are amongst the celebrities and sports donors with a selection of signed and worn league and national kit, from their homes. These items will feature alongside various other sport star donations including a signed shirt from footballer Harry Maguire, a vest from jockey Oisin Murphy, a cap from F1s’ Jenson Button and a whole host of TV and Movie stars including Rowan Atkinson, Dame Judi Dench, Stephen Fry, James Corden, Dawn French, Matt Lucas and many more!

The interesting lots include a news script from Fiona Bruce. The script features historic pandemic headlines from 15thJune when shops re-opened, face coverings became compulsory on public transport and England footballer Marcus Rashford campaigned for children’s food vouchers.

Exeter Leukaemia Fund Fundraiser Gary Moore is delighted by the response and hopes the local community will reciprocate by bidding generously. ‘We are overwhelmed by the support and generosity of the celebrity donors. These unique items will make a big difference to aid our recovery following the devastating effects of Covid19. ‘

Elf urges the public to dig deep to bid generously on these amazing unique items. Throughout the lockdown we have offered additional support to vulnerable blood cancer patients and families shielding in their homes. We have delivered essential shopping supplies, medication prescriptions and carried out telephone befriending for isolated patients.  Your support will help us continue supporting patients at home, in the community and at the RD&E Hospital.

The seven day auction will run on eBay from 8pm on Sunday 26th July. Supporters can view items and place bids at https://www.ebay.co.uk/e/charity/exeter-leukaemia-fund or follow @elfcharity on social media. Alternately please contact garym@elfcharity.org.uk for more information.
