The threat of your home being burgled can be enough to keep you awake at night or stop you from enjoying a vacation. It is an unfortunate expectation of the world that we live in these days and everybody must be vigilant to the threats of burglary. Whether you live in a quiet area or a busy area, the fact remains that you could be targeted and therefore should be making your home as difficult to break into as you possibly can.

Here are some security features that you could introduce to your home:

1 - Security cameras – Due to the advances in technology, you can now purchase effective security cameras at a reasonable price. You can also set it up so you can view them whilst you are away from the home to keep an eye on things and help you to enjoy your vacation knowing that your home is safe.

2 – Motion lighting – Burglars often target properties at night so that they can’t be seen in the darkness but if you set up lighting with motion sensors, it is sure to scare off a burglar as soon as they feel the beam of light across the back garden. You can pick up lighting with sensors for a good price from most DIY stores and you can easily install them around the outside of your home.

3 – Install solid doors – You would be surprised at how many burglars target doors, not just rear doors, but even front doors in broad daylight. Remember, they are generally highly experienced at what they do, so a weak door could be a very quick way for them to enter the house. Installing solid wood doors such as Oakwood doors external doors with good locks will make it much harder for them to get in this way.

4 - Neighbourhood watch schemes – One of the most cost effective but best ways to keep your home safe is to set up a neighbourhood watch scheme in your community. Your local authorities will be able to give you advice on how to set one up and may even help by visiting your homes or talking at presentations in your community. If you work together to be vigilant against suspicious activity then your area will be a much safer place and not a place that burglars will want to risk.

5 – Install an alarm – Having an alarm installed is again a very good burglar deterrent. A loud noise is one of the best ways to get the attention of other people in your neighbourhood who will hopefully contact police or try and contact you to tell you that your alarm is going off. If you have a visible alarm box on the front of your property, this can be enough to scare a burglar off.

Protecting your home should always be a big priority and with crime statistics showing that burglary is still a big problem, you will certainly be better safe than sorry.
