Most people are familiar by now, at least in name, with Botox as an anti-aging treatment. No longer the exclusive beauty secret of the rich and famous, Botox has now been in mainstream use for a long time, and is available in some great local beauty clinics, such as the Cotswold Face aesthetics clinic.

Botox is used by some people to stop their wrinkles from showing as much and stop them getting deeper, and by others as a preventative measure to stop wrinkles developing at all.

Who Has Botox?

Botox is used by people of all different ages, from those in their twenties who hope it will help keep them wrinkle free, to those in their later years who use it to look younger. However, given it is an injection based treatment, and is not permanent – you need to keep going back for more every three months or so – there is still some decision making to do if you want to go under the needle as to whether it is the right form of anti-aging for you right now.

Are You a Frowner?

The way Botox acts is by causing a localised paralysis in the area it is injected into that will last for around three months. By stopping small facial movements, it stops the skin from creasing and showing existing lines, and can also stop lines from forming at all. Facial creasing is not the only thing that causes wrinkles, but is one of the most significant causes. This means if you are someone who tends to crease up their face a lot, for example if you have a habit of wrinkling your nose a lot, or frowning with your forehead and eyebrows, Botox may be a good choice for you. Not only will it reduce the signs of lines caused by these facial movements, but it will also stop you making those expressions, getting you out of habits that are bad for your looks!

Are You 'In The Middle' Between Less Invasive Treatments and Full on Surgery?

Good candidates for Botox tend to be people who are far from ready to consider more drastic surgical options like a face lift, but you want something with more dramatic results than pain free treatments like exfoliation and deep moisturising. Treatments like Botox and chemical peels tend to fill this middle ground between non invasive treatments and full surgical options, because they are fairly intensive and require professional supervision, but have little or no recovery time and cause discomfort rather than serious pain.
Botox is fairly easy to obtain, and can be carried out in your lunch break if you don't mind going back to work with what look like mild bee stings on your face. It lasts for about three months, and while it is more expensive than a good anti-aging cream, it costs nowhere near as much as surgery. For many people it can give great results, especially where wrinkles are caused mostly by facial movements, so, if you think you're a good candidate, why not talk to a good aesthetics clinic?
