Local charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau has announced a change to its Adviceline telephone number.

The new number is 03444 111 444. The service is available each weekday between 10am and 4pm and is an opportunity for those who are unable to visit their local CAB office to get the help they need from fully trained and qualified CAB volunteers.

Steve Barriball, the charity’s Chief Executive said: “This is an important development as it helps to cut the cost of calling the CAB service.

"Calls now cost the same as 01 and 02 numbers, and are included as part of a mobile allowance or a landline call package on the same basis as these numbers. "Where callers are billed per minute, calls from landlines are typically no more than 9p per minute, and from mobiles are between 8p and 40p.

"There is considerable variation between phone tariffs and these are subject to change, so callers should check with their own provider, but the main thing to remember about 03 numbers is they work just the same as calling a standard landline anywhere in the country. The CAB service makes any money from these calls.

“The old 0844 number was charged at up to 13p per minute from a landline and between 5p and 41p from a mobile, often with an additional connection fee, and was not included in callers' inclusive minutes.

"Callers can continue to access our service on that number for now, but a recorded message will advise them of the change and suggest they phone back on the new number. There is no longer any need for the additional 03 number that used to be provided to mobile callers: everyone can now use the same one.

"This development, coupled with our move into new premises in Dix’s Field, is an important step in our commitment to modernising our services and removing any barriers to accessing our services.”
