For those interested in a bit of culture, the non-profit organization Eurasia is known for projects that bring different countries together through culture, history, and (perhaps most importantly) education. Their newest initiative, the international art competition and exhibition called "Art and Peace: The Great Victory of Life," celebrates the values of peace and coming together. Search for suspect two continues in Watertown

The whole greater urban area of Boston has been put into a state of virtual lockdown as the search for suspect two continues in the streets of Watertown. All public transport has been suspended including buses and subways in the Massachusetts Bay area. People at stations were asked to “please go home”.

The suspects - named Dzhokhar A Tsarnaev, 19, who is on the run, and his 26-year-old brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, moved to the US a year ago from a Russian region near Chechnya.

Police officer shot to death at MIT campus near Boston

One suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was killed early Friday morning, following an attack on police officers in Watertown that involved explosives and gunfire, local media reported.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s office said that the first suspect died in hospital after being taken into custody. Middlesex Co. DA confirmed the death of Watertown suspect.

The second suspect, also known as the 'white-hat suspect', is still on the loose. Boston police commissioner tweeted: "One suspect dead. One at large. Armed and dangerous. White hat suspect at large.”

Explosion at fertiliser plant in Texas

At least three people were reportedly killed, dozens of others were injured and about six firefighters were missing after a massive blast and huge fireball tore through a Fertiliser facility in West Texas, about 20 miles north of Waco.

A huge plume of smoke - laden with toxic anhydrous ammonia - was visible for miles and was being pushed by winds blowing from the south, officials said.

Update 16 April: Three people have been killed, including an eight-year-old boy and more than 140 others hurt after two bombs exploded during the Boston Marathon. Officials say that at least 17 people are critically wounded and the injuries include several amputations.

The Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) and the UK-based National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT) announced today that both unions have agreed to a "Trans-Atlantic Alliance," to cooperate on safety issues; launch joint campaigns targeting employers in-common; and advance a global strategy promoting the right of workers to organise unions and bargain to improve their working lives.

The National Secretary of India's main opposition party says she was attacked by five drunk men on a "fully jammed road in New Delhi in the night" in the country's capital.

Vani Tripathi, an actress and politician for the BJP said her attackers fled before police reached spot. Tweeting about the incident she said "Horrifying accident just got saved car smashed and on top of it five men tried to get inside my car all drunk..."

Ten killed as Mauritius floods

Massive torrential rain has hit the Republic of Mauritius, just east of Madagascar.

Heavy flooding has deluged Port Louis, a city with a population of approximately 150,000 inhabitants.

Local residents have reported avalanches of mud overturning cars and blocking streets.

Chinese officials remove Tibetan satellites

Chinese officials have reportedly cracked-down on foreign media in Tibet by dismantling satellite dishes at the Labrang Tashi Kyil monastery in Labrang (Gansu province), Amdho region, eastern Tibet on March 10th, the 54th anniversary of the Tibetan uprising in Lhasa.

The monastery was ordered to remove and burn their satellite dishes. Monastery officials were informed the satellites would be replaced with state sanctioned devices, capable of only receiving Chinese state controlled programmes. The move will block the Monastery from obtaining access to international media.

Community marches for Kimani Gray in East Flatbush, New York

On Sunday afternoon a march was held in memory of Kimani Gray, a 16-year-old boy killed by police in a shooting in East Flatbush on March 9th.

Protesters say Gray's death is yet another example of NYPD brutality. However, police allege the 16-year-old was a gang member who pulled a gun on them, forcing a confrontation. Community members claim the police are lying.
