Protest outside Djibouti courthouse against election results

Members of Djibouti's opposition coalition, Union pour le Salut National (USN), gathered on Thursday outside the courthouse in Djibouti to protest against February's parliamentary election results. The opposition claim that the election was fraudulent.

Since the parliamentary election late February, members and supporters of the opposition have been holding regular demonstration in protest of February's parliamentary election results, which saw the ruling party win a large majority.

The protesters also called for the release of prisoners arrested during previous demonstrations.

Since president Ismail Omar Guelleh's Union for the Presidential Majority (UMP) declared victory in February at least 8 people have been shot dead by police forces during demonstrations and 850 have been arrested, according to the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH).

Djibouti has been ruled by Guelleh since 1999. (NewsPoint)
