Crash leaves woman with life-threatening injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash that left a 20-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened at approximately 8.25pm on Monday 8th October on the A390 Grenville Road near Lostwithiel.

The vehicle, a green Fiat Punto, lost control on a right hand bend, crossed the carriageway and left the road colliding with a tree.

As a result of this collision the driver of the Fiat Punto, a woman from the Looe area, received serious life threatening injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Police dog Eddie and his handler, Police Constable Colin Harper located a vulnerable, elderly missing man this morning in the Wadebridge area. The man aged 90 years had been reported missing by his wife at 6.50pm yesterday evening after he failed to return from a walk. He was last seen at 2.00pm when he set off on his walk on the Camel trail. Following a search he was located at around 10.50am this morning lying in a field. A rare spider has been uncovered on National Trust land at Prawle Point in South Devon. The moon spider (Callilepis nocturna) was known to have previously inhabited this coastal site, although it has not been recorded since 1990.

Whilst common throughout Europe, the moon spider has been recorded at just 2 other sites nationwide: in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, and Tennyson Down on the Isle of Wight.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash in Falmouth.

The accident happpened at 1125am yesterday on the A394 between Treliever roundabout and Longdowns near Penryn.

A Black Volkswagen Bora travelling towards Treliever was in collision with a Leyland DAF lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

The female driver of the VW Bora was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The weather at the time was described as good visibility with low cloud and wet roads, but it was not raining at the time.

A campaign to ban topless women on Page 3 of British tabloid newspaper, The Sun, has continued to gain momentum reaching 44,567 signatures (at the time of writing) in a matter of weeks.

The petition calls on the editor of the publication, Dominic Mohan, to remove the bare breasts from the self-proclaimed 'family orientated' paper.

Boy 12 killed in hit and run accident

Police are appealing for witnesses after a road traffic collision in Bradford in which a 12 year old boy died. The incident happened at around 7pm on Saturday 6 October, on Rooley Lane, Bradford when a marked police car stopped a red coloured Seat Ibiza in a lay-by on Rooley Lane for a check. A ban on imports of ash trees to combat the threat of the tree disease Chalara fraxinea could be in place as early as November.

The disease causes leaf loss and has already killed trees in England, Scotland and parts of mainland Europe.

The infected trees in the UK had come from nurseries in Europe or had been in contact with imported ash trees.

A ban would also mean trees from infected areas would not be able to be moved to other locations.

Mark Bridger, 46, has been charged with the murder of missing five-year-old April Jones. April went missing from near her home in Machynlleth, mid Wales, on Monday evening.
