Following last night's BBC1 Crimewatch programme on which DCI Andy Redwood appealed for information into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, officers are extremely pleased with the response from the public.

BBC’s Crimewatch editor Joe Mather said several callers gave the same man's name after e-fit pictures were shown.

DCI Andy Redwood, said: "We are extremely pleased with the response to the Crimewatch appeal. The incident room is following up a number of enquiries, having received over 300 calls and over 170 emails with specific lines of enquiry. We will now take the time to follow up these lines of enquiry.

"Our appeal continues and later today I will be travelling to Holland, and tomorrow Germany, to continue the appeal for information.

"Madeleine remains at the heart of everything we do and I will continue to update the McCann family as more information is received by the incident room."

The appeal film will be shown in Germany and the Irish Republic later this week as tourists from these locations were also known to be at the resort.

The appeal accompanies an announcement that the Metropolitan Police Service is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information leading to arrest of Madeleine abductor(s).
Madeleine McCann has been missing since 3 May 2007.

The Crimewatch appeal was watched by an of average of 6.7million people last night. The largest audience the show has ever had.
