Dorchester-based independent, family-owned developer C G Fry & Son toasts the success of two of their site managers receiving awards in the South West regional finals of the NHBC (National House Building Council) ‘Pride in the Job’ 2013 in the medium house builder category. Steve Walker was announced as the South West regional winner for The Duchy of Cornwall Poundbury development in Dorchester and colleague Adrian White has won the Seal of Excellence for Wyndham Place in Tisbury, Wiltshire; his first site for C G Fry.

Pride in the Job is the only UK-wide competition dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house-building and has been instrumental in driving up the quality of new homes for over 30 years.  The judging process begins in July each year and lasts18 months to ensure that site managers are assessed at every stage of the build.  This award is the highest industry accolade a site manager can receive and C G Fry & Son as a company has won the NHBC regional award for  individual site managers for the fourth consecutive year.

Steve Walker who has been with the company for 23 years, started work as the project manager at the prestigious Poundbury development in Dorchester on the 25th October 1993 working with The Duchy of Cornwall.  Steve has won this award for the South West Quadrant site and is about to start the North East Quadrant as the next phase.  The mixed use development includes both residential and commercial with 1200 units remaining to be built.

As regional winner for the medium builder category, Steve will go through to the final Supreme Awards presented at the prestigious gala ceremony in London on January 17th 2014. The Supreme Award Winners are the overall national winners in each of the five builder categories, selected from the pool of Regional Winners with nine regions.

Steve Walker site Manager C G Fry & Son says: “I was shocked and delighted to win this award. The last 20 years at Poundbury has proved to be a very challenging but exciting project and it is wonderful to have public recognition.  We all work very much as a team and I have received a lot of help and support from my colleagues Mike Westcott and Joe Baggs as well as the sub-contractors on site who work to the high-end standards set by Fry’s. I am looking forward to the Supreme Awards in the New Year.”

Kevin Murch ─ Director C G Fry & Son says: “I am over the moon that this is the fourth year of winning the South West category for C G Fry in the medium builder category.  The fact that each year has been for individual site managers reflects the excellent and well-earned reputation gained by the company of a quality build with careful design that fits in harmony with the local landscape.  I am very proud of Adrian and Steve and their achievement is as a result of their hard work and commitment backed up by the company’s ethos to consistently strive for the highest quality and attention to detail.”
