Exeter climbs in top 20 of Guardian University Guide 2026

The University of Exeter has increased its standing in the top 20 UK universities in the Guardian University Guide 2026 .

Exeter climbed one place to 17th in the latest guide, published on Saturday 13 September.

The result that means the University of Exeter has secured a top 20 place in all three major university rankings.

Teaching excellence, student satisfaction and career prospects were among the factors used to rank universities.

Exeter School welcomes award winning author and former pupil

Exeter School was delighted to welcome back alumnus Kevin Brooks on Friday 26 June to speak to pupils from both his former school and four local secondary schools. Carnegie Award winner Kevin Brooks was born in Exeter in 1959 and received a scholarship to attend Exeter School from 1970-1977, before studying Psychology and Philosophy in Birmingham and Cultural Studies in London. Successful year of sport for Exeter School

As the end of term draws near, Exeter School is celebrating an academic year of sporting success.

It was an exciting season of great hockey, during which the boys' hockey teams were crowned U13, U16 and U18 Devon Champions and U14 runners up and the girls' hockey teams were named U16 and U18 Devon Champions and U14 Devon runners up.

The Spring term began with both U18 boys' and girls' hockey teams taking part in the National Indoor Hockey Finals.

Trainees from across Europe head for Devon

A Devon-based work placement company is preparing for its busiest summer yet with hundreds of trainees travelling to the South West from across Europe.

A record number of trainees, more than 220, will be welcomed by The Training Partnership (TTPL) in July. Another 75 will arrive in August.

The company, based at Torquay Innovation Centre, works with hundreds of Devon firms to provide placements in different sectors ranging from engineering and IT to tourism and retail.

Number of students attending Exeter Uni increases 378% in less than a decade

The Telegraph recently reported that the number of international students at the UK’s elite universities has nearly doubled in less than 10 years, with official figures from the institutions showing an approximate increase of 92.3%. Limited supply of rental homes in city

New research carried out by Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau has revealed that there is a limited supply of suitable housing for students and other private renters in Exeter.

The findings are published today in a new report from Citizens Advice called Dispatches from the front lines of the housing crisis. Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau features in the report highlighting the issues faced in the city in relation to its growing student population.

Students learn about dementia

Gina Awad and Colin Bray, Exeter Dementia Friends Champions, delivered an information session to 100 Year 7 students at Westexe School recently.

The students were informed of the 5 key messages that the national initiative is aspiring to deliver. "A thoroughly engaging group, that were keen to learn more" said Gina who is also leading the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance in working towards a dementia friendly city.

The students were keen to go back to class afterwards and create a short poem or poster to illustrate their learning.

Exeter's Josh Ellis has been named the winner of the VQ Learner of the Year Award 2015 for England, in recognition of his outstanding achievement following a vocational qualification in Plumbing at Exeter College.

Josh, 21, won the gold medal at the World Skills competition, with his work deemed ‘near perfect’ by the judges.

Josh has since progressed to a Level 3 Plumbing qualification and become the main installer for his company due to the exceptionally high standard of his work. He is now successfully juggling a very high demand for his work with his further studies at...

Landlords urged to act on new laws

Landlords in Devon and Somerset are being urged to act now to ensure they are ready for new safety laws aimed at saving dozens of lives a year.

The regulations make it compulsory for all landlords to fit smoke alarms in rented homes and are expected to come into effect from October 2015, subject to Parliamentary approval.

The University of Exeter has been ranked as one of the top 10 UK universities in the influential Guardian University Guide 2016.

Exeter is now in the top 10 of all the main UK higher education league tables – the first time such an accolade has been achieved - as well as being ranked in the top one per cent of institutions globally.
