Children at Redhills Primary School in Exeter enjoyed a different kind of learning experience before their summer break with an educational visit from The Donkey Sanctuary. Young people across Cranbrook have brought new meaning to the term ‘recycling’ by creating an eye-catching and colourful town-wide public art display from old bikes.

In all 14 bikes have been painted, decorated and placed around the town – and now visitors are being challenged to find them all. The bikes have been decorated by members of the Cranbrook Youth Group, Youth Genesis and students from Cranbrook Education Campus and St Martins Primary School, with each bike painted in the colours of one of the competing teams. Students at Newton Abbot’s pioneering technical college were put through their paces when a Royal Marine Chef visited to lead an energetic cooking masterclass.

Year 10 and Year 12 students of South Devon University Technical College (UTC) received a lesson in healthy cooking from Colour Sergeant Mike Beaton. The University of Exeter’s University Challenge team faced the “intimidating gaze” of Jeremy Paxman and an intense atmosphere as they competed in the iconic TV quiz show.

The competitors - Jess Brown, Simon Waitland, Danny Lay and Will Klintworth – took on the University of Warwick on the BBC2 show. Despite building an early lead the team were pipped to the post by Warwick by 165 points to 150 but could still have a chance to progress in the play-off round.

Exeter Deaf Academy have won the national track and field competition for Deaf schools for the second consecutive year. It is the first time the Cup has been won by the same school two years in a row in the history of the event.

A driven team of students from South Devon University Technical College have been pushing all the boundaries to take part in the prestigious Royal Navy Junior Leaders’ Field Gun Challenge. Students in Exeter may be entitled to TV Licensing refund

As universities approach the end of term, TV Licensing is reminding cash-strapped students in Exeter that they may be entitled to a refund worth over £50.

Since 1 April 2017, TV Licensing has changed the way refunds are calculated meaning that 23,175 students packing up and moving home for the summer could be entitled to a refund just in time to celebrate the end of their exams.
