Pickleball fever grips West Exe School!

Students at West Exe School , part of the Ted Wragg Trust , have been picking up their paddles and taking part in the pickleball craze that has been sweeping the country!

Pickleball, once a niche sport, has exploded into a nationwide craze in recent years, captivating players, regardless of their age or skill level. The game first emerged in the 1960s and is a mixture of tennis, badminton and ping pong, it has gained momentum in recent years as the ultimate social sport, bringing people together to take part in a fun and accessible form of exercise.

7th annual Exeter GCC Ladies Pro-Am

A full field of 36 teams took part in the 7thAnnual Ladies Pro-Am at Exeter Golf & Country Club.

With the course in magnificent condition, and most of the field playing in dry conditions, good scoring was the order of the day as the teams battled for a fantastic prize table.

In the Individual professionals competition, Richard O’Hanlon, who is now based at St Kew, his third Cornish club following Lanhydrock and The Point at Polzeath, won the Exeter Ladies pro-am with a round of three-under-par 66.

Golf & Country Club Director's Cup

Saturday 3 May saw 90 competitors battle in the annual 36 hole marathon of the Directors Cup, a Devon County Golf Union Order of Merit event.

The weather was kind with very little wind and mainly sunshine which allowed for some good scoring, even though the course was playing very long.

With the first match off at 6.45am, the pace was set early with Sam Dunn (Teignmouth) returning a 2 over par 71, to lead the morning scorers for a while until Ryan Wheeler (Stover) returned a level par 69 and Adam Bridgewater (Tavistock) opened up with a one over 70.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Elvis Taione will offer "something different" to his squad ahead of the 2014/15 season.

The Tongan international is the latest new addition to the playing ranks at Sandy Park having joined from Championship side Jersey.

Baxter has been in the market for a new hooker ever since it was confirmed that Chris Whitehead would be forced to retire with immediate effect following the club's LV= Cup success over Northampton Saints in March.

Bicton College’s Chiefs Rugby Academy competed in the British Colleges Elite Final against Bishop Burton College and won with a resounding 35 – 20 score today.

The first Bank Holiday Stableford took place this past Monday with 99 players battling the course to try and trim their handicap. Winner of the event was Lauren Pearce with a stunning 40 points playing off a handicap of 3. English former football player and manager, Kevin Keegan OBE took time out from a ‘Southern Sporting Club’ lunch presentation held at Sandy Park to sign an official Exeter City football shirt. The footballing legend aged 63 was the keynote speaker at the sporting lunch hosted by David Duckham MBE, the former Coventry and England rugby player.

Zara boots home a double clear at Bicton

Zara Phillips was among the competitors at Bicton Arena on Saturday where an additional day was added to its two-day competition after Withington Manor in Gloucestershire was cancelled due to bad weather.

Phillips, a member of the Great Britain Olympic team that won a silver medal at London 2012, returned to competitive riding last weekend following the birth of her first child in January.
